É Fim de Festa…
It’s the end of the line…

Journalist Lauro Jardim, from Veja Magazine (Radar column), informs that the National Institute of Industrial Ownership (INPI), responsible for interests ranging in the billions of dollars and thousands of companies and products has had no president for… five months. Yes, you read it correctly: five months. As a matter of fact, INPI’s average time for decide on a patent is twelve years, a world record. Currently, there are more than 180 thousand requests in the hands of less than two hundred people. Since diplomat Octavio Brandelli left INPI’s presidency in the beginning of 2015, more than ten prospective candidates were invited. Nobody accepted the job, informs Veja’s Radar column. Is anyone really concerned about the present and the future of the Brazilian economy? The Lessa Blog doesn’t think so.

Cenira Barradas e a Ignorância Alheia
Cenira Barradas and other people’s ignorance

Lula didn’t know about the “mensalao” (big monthly allowance).
Dilma didn’t know about the heavy corruption scheme going on in Petrobras.
(Former soccer player) Ronaldo didn’t know that the two girls he picked up and took to a motel were trannies.
Romario (former soccer player, now senator) didn’t know he had a Swiss bank account.
If I’m not mistaken, Romario also didn’t know that the girl he left a nightclub with, holding hands, was not exactly a girl, or… did he?

Sergio Garschagen e os Ciclones
Sergio Garschagen and the cyclones

One more loss in the tune of millions – Several cyclones have destroyed cities in the South of Brazil, with heavy losses. Now, a new cyclone destroys Brazil-Ukraine’s relation in the space sector. The partnership started in 2006 has just been cancelled by the Brazilian administration. There is no more interest in the project. However, it so happens that the Brazilian treasury invested 500 million reais (some 145 million dollars) building the new Cyclone Launch Center in Alcantara. Ukraine has built three-quarters of the rocket, while its most complex part (the technological) was still in development. At war with Russia, it is pretty obvious that the Ukrainian government will demand that bankrupt Brazil pays for everything spent so far in this project. Guess who is going to pay for it?

Carlos Marchi, Lula and the Nazis…

Lula thinks that Dilma is being “persecuted” and that “it looks like a Nazi thing.”
No.
It looks like the Untouchables going after Al Capone’s gang.

O Blog do Lessa Aguarda com Expectativa!…
The Lessa Blog eagerly awaits!…

This week’s “Veja” magazine informs that contractor Leo Pinheiro has decided to tell federal prosecutors everything he knows about former president Lula’s participation in the “petrolao” (the huge scandal that has destroyed Petrobras) and to explain how Lulinha, the former president’s son, became a millionaire. According to Veja, “Mr. Pinheiro has said that if his plea bargain is accepted, he will present the authorities with a complete list of politicians who have received “petrolao” money via the OAS (his company). ‘After Leo talks, there will be no way to avoid arresting Lula. Either Lula is arrested, or the Car Wash investigation is demoralized’, said one of Mr. Pinheiro’s friends.
The Lessa Blog eagerly awaits the arrest, prosecution and conviction of this criminal who acted decisively to destroy Brazil socially, economically, financially, morally and ethically.

Oposição de Sofá: Momento de Lucidez
Sofa Opposition: a moment of sanity

folha_fhc

The Folha de S.Paulo newspaper’s headline above says that former prez Fernando Henrique Cardoso does not think this is the moment for his party (PSDB) to be looking to get closer to the current administration. FHC also says that “any non-public dialogue would look like a scheme trying to save what should not be saved”; PSDB members had criticized the Workers Party move to approach PSDB.
The Lessa Blog, relieved, says this is a rare moment of sanity by the Sofa Opposition.

Brasil, o País Rico
Brazil, the rich country

To send the New Horizons probe to Pluto and obtain the first photos of that planet, the United States spent some 700 million dollars, or 2 billion 500 million reais, on today’s (July 24) exchange.
In the rich country known as Brazil, according to Folha de S.Paulo newspaper, at least five infrastructure works have already consumed much, much more than that. Check them out:
1. Expansion of the Sao Paulo subway, delayed: 12 billion dollars. About 17 trips to Pluto.
2. Belo Monte Hydroelectric Dam, a target of the Brazilian GAO investigation: 9.5 billion dollars. About 13 trips to Pluto.
3. Rio de Janeiro’s Petrochemical Complex (Comperj), a target of the Car Wash investigation: 5.8 billion dollars. About 8 trips to Pluto.
4. Transposition of the Sao Francisco river, delayed: 2.5 billion dollars. About 3 trips to Pluto.
5. North-South Railroad, unfinished after thirty years: 1.4 billion dollars. About 2 trips to Pluto.
Brazil is definitely a rich country.

“Um Filme de Terror Sem Fim”
“A horror movie with no end”

The Financial Times newspaper is unforgiving. It has published a tough editorial on the political and economic crisis in Brazil. With the title “Recession and graft: the growing rot in Brazil”, the text says very accurately that “incompetence, arrogance and corruption have shattered Brazil’s magic spell.” The Financial times also says that recent facts led Brazil to be compared to a “horror movie with no end” and that, given the risk of president Dilma Roussef’s impeachment, “worse times are still to come for Brazil.” You can read the complete Financial Times editorial by clicking here.

Sylvio Guedes, Bicycle and Death

These murderers are not minors. They are 19 years old already, but started their careers many years ago, perfecting their technique of killing with no remorse. As a friend of mine just said today, what we live in Brazil today is a question of moral deformation. There is no hunger (they are not going though this kind of need) that can explain so much violence and contempt for life. To kill because of a bicycle…
